 The Karoo
Ouberg Lodge is centrally situated for you to enjoy your "Karoo
Experience" all within easy travel distance.
Middleburg is the birth place of Athol Fugard, the famous playwright & filmaker. Visit the famous "Owl House" where he was inspired to write the play "Road to Mecca". Take a ride on a donkey cart through the village & take a step back in time. The Mountain Zebra National Park has excellent game viewing, while hiking or 4x4 trips can be arranged in the private Brulberg Game Reserve & Valley of Desolation. Middleburg was garrison to the British troops during the Boer War & historical sites like the "Stool Monument" are within walking distance of the lodge.
Visitors wishing to enjoy the "Karoo Experience" should allow 4 days for the full trip, although shorter visits can be accomodated. Arrangements can be made to meet you at your hotel or airport in Port Elizabeth. The full tour cost per person is R3,250.00 which includes:-
Day 1 depart 2.00pm - The tour will start in Port Elizabeth where you will be met & driven to Middleburg in the heart of the Great Karoo which is a 3 hour journey. Check in to the Karoo Ouberg Lodge, where a welcome cocktail will be served. Enjoy a quiet stroll to visit the "Stool Monument" & stargaze the famous Karoo night sky. Traditional Karoo dinner will be served in the dining room.
Return to the lodge for a light lunch. Depart 2.00 pm for the Mountain Zebra National Park for a 3 hour game drive. Return to the lodge for an evening traditional "braaivleis". Day 3 - depart 8.30am - Breakfast at the lodge at 7.30am. Visit the Brulberg Private Reserve by 4x4 & enjoy the magnificent views in the mountains. A short hike on top of the mountain & a picnic snack. Return to the lodge at 2.00pm & depart for a visit to the Owl House. Take a donkey cart ride through the village & stroll at your own leasure. Dinner in a traditional Karoo Restaurant in the village & return to the lodge at 9.00pm.
Return to the lodge for a Karoo Art Exhibition by local artists & a farewell dinner. Day 5 - depart 8.30am - Breakfast at the lodge at 7.30am. Return to Port Elizabeth. |

Visits to a working Karoo Sheep
farm can also be arranged. The lodge is also affiliated to the
Tennis & Bowls facilities within walking distance of the
lodge.

Middleburg, the museum & working Karoo Sheep Farm. 
Day 4 - depart 8.30am -
Breakfast at the lodge at 7.30am. Visit the Valley of Desolation
& historical sites in this area.
