Schreiner: Karoo Writers Festival - Cradock 21 - 24 July 2016

Date: 30th June 2016

Cradock, a key Eastern Cape town, has its own festival devoted to the lives and output of Karoo writers.

Karoo words, old and new, share the fireside in a fascinating programme for the 7th Karoo Writers Festival (Cradock 21-24 July 2016).

Toast Coetzer is bringing a trio of new literary voices from Cape Town (online writer Alice Inggs, novelist musician David Cornwell and singer actress Daniella Rodin).

Port Elizabeth artist Theresa Hardman is offering 'Karoo Inspiration' a creative collage workshop featuring images and fragments of poetry.

Four of Cradock's popular tours (three of them on foot) are included in the schedule as well as three open microphone sessions (one with pudding and port included).

At the "huiskonsert", writers play unplugged.

Expect to be amazed by travel writer Chris Marais and Zen master Antony Osler jamming with their buddies.

Readings of work by Olive Schreiner and Guy Butler feature along with a number of writers talking about their own work - ex Cradock detective Marielize van Zyl introducing her crime novel "In die Spore van 'n Speurder", is one example.

Open-hearted Karoo hospitality and lots of comfort food and drink ensure the festival spirit never flags.
