ACCOMODATION / FARMSTAYS

Osplaat is a working farm situated 21km from Jansenville. The family farm has a long historical background and several of the buildings on the farm are over 100 years old. Accomodation available consists of a unit of 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bedrooms are comfortable and have a rustic feel that allows children to have the freedom to play and enjoy themselves. There is a large, comfortable open plan living/kitchen area. The dubble doors opens on a veranda and outside living area that hosts not only a bbq facilities but also an open air shower. The unit is a self-serving option that is fully equiped. The inside BBQ contributes to the relaxed and comfortable atmosfeer. The unit can sleep up to 10 people but is ideal for families who want to spend some time on a farm and enjoy nature.

Views of the surrounding mountains from the livingroom and the veranda allows people to do some game watching whilst having their morning coffee or a sundowner. Wildlife that can be seen include kudu, reebuck, baboons, monkeys, various bird species including the breeding pare of eagles whom nests in the cliffs of the waterfall.

The unit has electricity but hot water is provided by warm water “donkeys”. Quests are welcome to take part in lighting the donkey's, should the wish to do so. The farm is a safe environment for children to play, explore and for people/families to re-connect.

There is a Bread and Breakfast option available to travellers who would like to wake up on a farm after the hustle from city life.

We however concentrate on offering families and groups the opportunity for a break away weekend. Here they get the chance to do some star gazing and to wake up with the sound of birds, the view of mountains surrounding them and an 80 feet high waterfall within 10 min. walking distance. Accommodation is self-catering units but meals can also be provided. Families are welcome to take walks in the mountains, have a picnic, go on veldt drives (guided) and guides are also available to teach them about the veldt and animals.

The accomodation is available for bookings such as:

  • Bed and Breakfast
  • Weekend accomodation for individuals/groups/families
  • Holiday accomodation
  • Holiday camps

HOLIDAY CAMPS (LIFE SKILLS CAMPS)

We offer life skill camps to children between the ages of 8 – 16 years during school holidays. They are offered accommodation on a working Karoo farm (10 children at a time). The camps lasts either 3 to 5 days and is a close to nature experience that is combined with working on existing and new life skills.

The aim of these camps is to offer secure accomodation to children whilst their parents work during school holidays.

ACTIVITIES

These include hiking, mountain climbing, picnic at the waterfall, bird watching, game watching, guided veldt walks, veldt drives, taking part in farm activities, mountain bike trails, horse riding. Horse riding lessons are available on request. We recommend that quests take part in a guided night drive as this allows you to experience nature in a new way and it allows opportunity to take some great photo's.

HORSE CENTRE

We are privaledged to also be able to offer the use of our horse centre to people/families whom experience some trauma or stress. We use our horses not only for riding but in cases where families contact us foir therapeutic services or where groups look for team building options.

TEAM BUILDING
We offer teambuilding days/weekends. We use horses and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy techniques. Individuals have to work together as a team in order to complete challenges and activities with the horses. The horse becomes part of the team dynamics and this leads to interesting discussions on how individuals responds as part of a team, within an organisation, as a prefect, etc.

EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
We offer individual, family and group counselling and is 1 of only 2 trained practices in the Eastern Cape on how to use Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Areas we work on include non-verbal communication, problem solving, teamwork, negotiation, etc. Developmental areas we work on include behavioural difficulties, dependency issues, eating disorders, abuse, depression, relationship difficulties and communication problems.

REHABILITATION AND TRAINING OF HORSES
